Getting out earlier would have signalled game over, whilst his ability to play more strokes was inhibited by other players inability to rotate the strike, especially Flintoff, who now looks a debatable number seven at best.

Unlike against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, KP did not follow others in getting dismissed, but played sensibly to prevent a bigger collapse. I feel it shows his development as a player, rather than any self vanity. He played the situation, something people have been crying out for over the past year. he is now reaching his glorious potential and we will see more against Saffers I am sure.

Put him at three I say, don't be scared England. That's where the best player should play, just ask Ponting and Kallis.Chrispyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17116768172493122694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37251922.post-83267169283254400472007-04-09T23:18:00.000+01:002007-04-09T23:18:00.000+01:00Pietersen is the last one I'd blame. People continually moan when he is out for "just fifty", then when he gets the century at what is still a fantastic strike rate for most, he still gets hammered. there was little more he could have done and how exactly does one go about doing more to get the strike, when the guy up the other end is simply not rotating it, ie Flintoff and often Bopara?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37251922.post-19216322272688786942007-04-09T23:08:00.000+01:002007-04-09T23:08:00.000+01:00"it wasn't until he [Pieterson] had calmly trotted..."it wasn't until he [Pieterson] had calmly trotted through for his first century in nigh on two and a half years that he actually threw the bat at a delivery. And that got him out."

Yes! The exact reason why he shouldn't have gone slogging earlier on. Had KP got out at 70 attempting to bash the ball about, England would have finished up at a paltry 220-odd - and the usual suspects would have blamed him for England's woes yet again. KP had to steady the ship at that point.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
